I joined ILC in September 2007. Fresh from Singapore Polytechnic where I’ve been working for the last six years, I hope to be able to bring to CUHK a whole array of business communication skills and writing skills for all contexts (including writing for eportfolio, blogs and the web).
Professionally, I’ve always enjoyed teaching English as a Second Language. I’m also interested in how people learn, especially with the new media. And currently, I’m keen to develop language strategies to help students in CUHK to be independent and autonomous learners in the 21st century. The areas which I have researched and presented papers on include language testing in communication skills, infusing creative and critical thinking into technical writing.
On the personal front, my mantra for living is that life is a process of learning, unlearning and re-learning. Hence, I try to pick up a new skill every year (for this year, I’m learning to build a montage of my collection of photographs, prose and poems using the new media), unlearned poor habits I’ve picked up using my digital camera and re-learning how to take photographs with my manual camera.
