1. Could I attend a workshop without registration?
Ans.
You are welcome to walk in and attend a workshop provided it has spare capacity.

2. Do I have to pay a deposit when I register for a workshop?
Ans.
No. Currently, all English language enhancement workshops are free.

3. Can I check out learning materials from the ILC?
Ans.
Items in the UC Language Collection can be checked out following UC library regulations. Reference books, CDs and items in the UC Special Language Collection are for use in the ILC only.

4. How can I book a language consultation time?
Ans.
You can register by phoning 2609-8733 or 2609-8764, or you can come to the ILC Counter in person, for same-day registration.

5. I read the questions in the "Real-world Job Interview Questions" file posted on the Download page . Are they real questions?
Ans.
Yes, they are all taken from real job interviews.

6. Can I get assistance in developing a personal study plan?
Ans.
Yes, the best way to do it is to come to one of the Language Consultation Sessions and talk to a Language Counsellor.

7. Can you give me suggestions on how to improve my reading or listening skills?
Ans.
Please attend relevant workshops or come to meet a Language Counsellor at one of the Language Consultation Sessions.

8. Do you offer free language enchancement workshops for people who are not a member of the University?
Ans.
No, sorry. We only serve students and staff of the University.

9. Can I get the handouts for a workshop if I cannot attend it?
Ans.
No, handouts are prepared for workshop participants only.

10. How do I know if there are vacancies in a workshop?
Ans.
First you can check for vacancies through the ILC Web-based Course Registration System (http://www.ilc.cuhk.edu.hk/english/requirement.html).  If the workshop is full, put down your name on the waiting list.  The centre will send you a confirmation reminder concerning your registration one day before the workshop.

11. Where can I find the schedule for the Language Consultation sessions?
Ans.
The monthly schedule for language consultation is posted on the ILC website, in the centre and through the weekly mass mailing every Friday.

12. What help could I ask for if I attend a Language Consultation session at the ILC?
Ans.
Past students have sought help in the following areas to improve their English skills.

13. May I bring my writing for proofreading?
Ans.
Unfortunately, the ILC does not offer a proofreading service. You may bring a short piece of writing to seek advice on how to improve your written communication skills. The counsellor will advise you on the problems with your writing and suitable resources for you to use to improve your writing.
