Students looking for a job are often confused about what to write in an application letter and in a resume. Through activities workshop participants will differentiate between the purpose in writing an application letter and that in putting together a resume. They will also have an opportunity to examine what the potential employer will be looking for in an application letter with the ultimate goal of short-listing suitable candidates for an interview. There will be an important reminder of the proper way to submit a job application electronically.

Students will be introduced to a collection of hundreds of interview questions that have been collected from past graduates who encountered them in “real” interviews. They will learn the techniques to build up their own list of possible interview questions and how to prepare convincing answers to those questions.

We will try to look at ways to help candidates perform well in a group interview situation, which has become a very popular means of shortlisting job applicants among well established organizations. Through examining the different roles a member can play within a team meeting, students will be able to pick up and develop skills needed in any group meeting or discussion session.

Students should bring to each writing counselling session for feedback something they have written up recently, for example, a resume, a job application letter, or a declaration of interest for further studies, paragraphs written up for a section in a form related to job/ exchange programme / scholarship application.
