Conclusion: a diary note for Sally

Sally believes that the interview and the subsequent discussions, taken together, were a useful even though an uncomfortable, experience for her. As part of the preparation for the coming interview, she writes in English, in her diary, a short account of what she thinks were her mistakes and what she learned as a result of making them. She spent considerable time and thought on this, and selected the crucial vocbulary with care. You are invited to make what is in your view the best choice of words to fill the spaces below and then to compare your own selection with hers.

It is important to 1)that a job interview is not, and cannot be, a 2) conversation between equals. It is an event in the professional experience of at least two people. Of these, one, the interview, 3)the course of conversation. He/she decides when the interview should 4)and conclude, what is to be 5)and when the topics should 6). The applicant is not required to 7)any of these responsibilities and should not do so. It is 8)that the person interviewed should listen 9)to the questions asked, should be aware of the interviewr's purpose in asking, and should give fairly short, 10)answers. If the interviewer wants more detail he/she will ask for it. Applicants should be very careful not to ramble on - as it is only too easy to do when you feel nervous!
