Global Citizenship Series: Fair Trade

Date: Oct 22
Time: 14:30 - 16:15
Venue: Seminar Room, 1/F, Wu Chung Library

What’s the origin of that cup of coffee in your hand? Not the café, but the producer – where were the beans grown? For coffee and many other commodities in our daily lives, there is a complex supply chain that brings it from the grower to the distributor and, finally, the consumer. Fair Trade is designed to ensure agricultural and textile workers – whom we depend on for coffee, tea, clothing, chocolate, bananas, and many other goods – are given reasonable compensation and working conditions in exchange for their contributions to their respective industries. This workshop will explore Fair Trade practices around the world, including the Asia-Pacific, to help you develop a better understanding of ethical consumerism and the nature of modern agricultural labour.
